Who We Are
As chef on a cruise ship plying Caribbean waters, La Gondola owner Davide Foini, a native of Northern Italy, frequently visited St. Maarten and fell in love with the island, where he settled in the 1990s.
After working at the restaurant in the world-famous La Samanna Resort in the French lowlands, Davide opened La Raviolina, a pasta-maker in Sandy Ground. Word of his pasta spread rapidly, and he soon was supplying his fresh pasta to all the island’s top dining establishments.
Acquiescing to many requests that he open his very own restaurant, Davide situated the original La Gondola in a small storefront next to La Raviolina. Word again spread quickly and the tiny restaurant was filled to the ceiling every night.
Then, in November of 2003, Davide moved La Gondola into its present, much larger location at Atlantis Casino. He discontinued selling his pasta to other restaurants in 2004, concentrating solely on La Gondola.
